Week 12: Social Media
Reflections from Videos
and Reading (Community Relations 2.0)
Without any doubt, Social Media is having a huge impact on Integrating
Marketing Communication, and a profound impact on people’s life. It is of critical
importance for a company to develop policies and strategies for managing
internet communities and communications for reducing negative impact and foster
positive impact. For a decent size company, it should have a social media
team to monitor online communities
inside and outside, to engage related communities, and to respond quickly as
needed.
There are several
types of Social media, such as Social Networks (example: facebook), Blogging
(Twitter), Social Bookmarking, Media Sharing (YouTube), and social reviews,
etc. All these types of social media can
deliver various types of messages. The messages that work best in social media
should be general information, such as fashion and trends, experience, new announcement, how to use some products (like
to use Youtube), promotion information, up-coming evens, etc. Some messages that should avoid social media
are some legal sensitive information or any information that may arise
controversy, such as warranty details, etc.
I do not think social media will lead to the end of other marketing
communication forms. Social media has different functions in comparison with
other marketing communication forms as website, advertising, etc. The audiences
of social media are the whole world, directly or indirectly. Other communications
can be set for targeted audiences in locations, in time, in groups of people.
